NDEBELE CRAFTS

The principal aim of The Ndebele Foundation is to teach rural women and children from the community the Art of their mothers and grandmothers with an emphasis on painting. Many Ndebele are involved with beadwork, either on commission for tourist shops at airports, markets in the cities or for curio shops at luxury lodges. Women from remoter areas must travel long distances to sell their crafts -- or accept small profit deals in order to pay their way home.

Teaching a young child to paint requires years of training, discipline and funding.
Their Art is highly complex, filled with meaningful symbols and motifs – and the Ndebele take great pride in the precision of lines and colors, all done free hand without rulers or measurements.

All training is free at our Center and our two world renowned teachers select students from the age of four based on their interest and self discipline.

Here are a few examples of works painted by the Women and children at our Center. However, funding is urgently needed to support teachers, artists and craftsmen -- and to acquire art materials and products for painting.

Please support this worthy cause and help to alleviate poverty, unemployment and forced migration to the cities.
